Real Web Skills Through Real Projects
A flexible project sequence for students, educators and community organizations.
End with work students can explain.
The project is a functioning site or local demonstration, a repository and a short explanation of the problem, structure and tests. A student should be able to distinguish their decisions from the output of a template or assistant.
Use the fourteen-module path as a sequence to adapt. Move at the pace the class needs; the modules are not claims of fixed completion time.
Choose a project small enough to finish.
| Setting | Possible project | Useful constraint |
|---|---|---|
| Classroom | A course-project catalogue. | Each project has an owner, summary and evidence. |
| Student club | An equipment and resource guide. | A new member can find the right instructions. |
| Independent study | A portfolio explaining three pieces of work. | Every claim points to something inspectable. |
| Community partnership | A draft service-information directory. | The organization reviews accuracy before publication. |
Assess judgment alongside implementation.
- Can the student explain the content model?
- Does the main journey work with a keyboard and narrow screen?
- Can another person run or open the project from its instructions?
- Are sources and AI contributions identified?
- Can the student show a failed test and the change it prompted?
These questions reveal understanding more clearly than counting pages or lines of code.
Give the project an appropriate environment.
A local or classroom demonstration can satisfy the learning objective without a public account or paid domain. Educators decide account access, publication and handling of student information under their institution’s rules.
A community project needs a named adult or organizational owner for published information and ongoing maintenance. Students should not accidentally become permanent production support.
Ways to use the material.
The sequence can support a class, club, internship, independent study or a bounded community project. An educator can select only the modules that fit an existing course.
